Expanding the educational capacity

Cape Verde

CABO

VERDE

Situación

The congregation Esclavas de la Santísima Eucarística y de la Madre de Dios carries out its work training and promoting children and young people in Cape Verde since 1981. The Miraflores de Praia School was opened in 2006. The centre provides classed for pre-school, primary, and secondary age children. It has a capacity for one thousand pupils and 1527 have registered this year. Up until covid, classes took place in two shifts to provide classrooms for everyone. Currently, in addition to the two shifts, class days are split over the course of the week. One group attends Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and the other on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The centre needs to be expanded to meet the existing demand. The expansion would be used by around 650 secondary school pupils and would include more space for sports and offices, which are currently in an area shared with the classrooms, and a dining hall. There is currently a small kitchen and pupils eat in the classrooms. The school expansion project will take place in two stages:

Stage 1

2021-22: Block A classrooms, laboratories, planning and additional actions

Stage 2

2022-23: Block B classrooms, dining hall and kitchens
